Treatment for LASIK or PRK Infection

LASIK infections Treatments

Early 1 week:  likely MRSA, staph aureus or Strep

Treat per culture and sensitivity data

Empirically begin with Vancomycin 1% and/or Ceftazadime hourly

 

Later  after 2 weeks:  fungal, yeast, or atypical mycobacteria

Fungal:  use Natamycin 5%  (50 mg/ml) hourly

Yeast infection:  Amphotericin B (1.5mg/ml) hourly

Atypical Mycobacteria:   Amikacin (8 mg/ml) and Clarithromycin (10 mg/ml) hourly
